Alois Winfield "Lou" Schaar, of Port Orange, Florida, passed quietly while surrounded by family on December 15, 2014. He was born in Baltimore on February 14, (Valentine's Day) 1920 to Frederick and Josephine Winfelder Schaar.

Lou graduated from Baltimore College with an accounting degree and began a 42-year career as an executive with Chevrolet. Lou married Lavern Brunsdon in 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio. He spent most of his career with Chevrolet in Detroit and upon retirement relocated to Port Orange.

He and Lavern were long-time residents of the Spruce Creek Fly In Community where they pursued their love of golf, dancing, bridge/gin and going to the beach. His last two years were difficult physically but he handled his disabilities with grace and was well cared for and loved by the staff at Countryside Lakes Assisted Living Facility.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lavern, his brothers Frederick and Albert. Lou is survived by his son Richard and his wife Ceci, son Thomas and his wife, Kheri, his daughter Lu Ann Kandt and her husband Chuck, and grandchildren: Kellen Schaar, Carrie Robyn Kandt, Nicki Kandt, Piper Schaar, Adam Schaar, Siena Schaar and Mckenna Schaar along with his great-granddaughter, Mya Rae Byrd. Lou will also be remembered fondly by Elizabeth Denman, his loving companion in his later years, as well as his sister and brother-in-law Doris and Bob Olsen, and his nieces Barbara Schwartz, Patricia Adair, Nancy Marshall, Billy Schaar, and Cindy Schaar Frye.

Donations in lieu of flowers are going to Halifax Health Hospice at 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL, 32129.

A memorial will be held at Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, FL at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 21. Following the service, a gathering for friends and family will be held at The Golf Club at Cypress Head, 6231 Palm Vista Street, Port Orange, FL 32128.
