IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alma
Mckim
November 15, 1928 – October 19, 2024
The wonderful Alma McKim departed us on Saturday, October 19, 2024, while surrounded by family and love. Alma was born on November 15, 1928, in Hackensack, NJ. She married Bob Mckim on April 17, 1949, and moved to Daytona, Florida in 1964 with their young family. Alma worked for the YWCA downtown, then retired with the American Cancer Society as administrative assistant. For those who have had the privilege of knowing Alma, she was the youngest 95 years old you have ever met. She was the epitome of the saying "age is just a number". It was her attitude and spirit (and exercise routine) that kept her forever young. She was a beautiful inspiration to everyone around her in how to live life to its fullest. She was always up for an adventure, a fun time, a good conversation, and good company. She was generous and loving, always with a kind smile, and a genuine hug.
Everything about Alma was inspiring. Those that have known her over the years know that she has been "Mom" to more than just her own kids. She and Bob gathered a large extended family over their years on Robinhood Trail, hosting many dinners, Thanksgivings and Christmas Eve parties, creating memories with cream puffs, fudge, and chocolate chip cookies. There was an open-door policy at Bob and Alma's house for anyone that needed a place to stay for any amount of time. As well as an open kitchen table for those long nights of playing cards, extra chairs to eat baked ziti, a "nice sandwich" waiting to be made, and a cold drink in the fridge. Many have been touched by Alma's kindness. Everyone was included in family dinners. There was never a stranger in the house.
At 95 years young, Alma was still very active. She enjoyed riding on the back of Dan's motorcycle, her regular three times per week workout routine, having a drink, going to the beach, walking along the river, and riding along with Patti in her convertible. Alma could never pass up a chance to be out and about, a time to be social, the opportunity to travel, or sitting in the sun at the beach (intentionally not under an umbrella).
Among her many interests, Alma loved being a part of the racing community. From her first date with Bob at a local dirt racetrack to being a regular at the North Turn Beach Bar and Grill, where you could find her supporting her son, Buz, as he hosts Legends of Racing Radio Show. She was a loved and welcoming figure across the board. She was immersed in racing for many, many years, from Bob being an announcer for local races, and even her youngest son, Bobby, writing for the racing newspaper at age 15. And of course, there's Buz, whom she's always been so proud of his accomplishments in the racing world and excited to be there to celebrate him. Alma was a volunteer at the Living Legends Museum, regularly attended gatherings with the Lunch Bunch, and enjoyed being social. She was always a joy to have around.
In her retirement years, she was continuously adventurous as she traveled with her sister throughout Europe, to the Grand Canyon, and going on cruises. She looked forward to the summer road trips with Patti and her daughters to visit Auntie in New Jersey. And she loved visiting Kat wherever she lived, especially all her adventures with Kat and family in Mexico and Arizona.
Her grandkids and great grands will always remember her as being loving, fun, and supportive in every way. She was proud of each one of their accomplishments and had so much love for her growing family. Grandma's house has and will always be a big welcoming hug, candy on the coffee table, a walk to Dairy Queen, large loud family dinners, visits before homecoming, a big orange couch, a therapy office, and so much more. Her memory will always include a greeting card for every occasion along with "a little something", her presence at all the graduations, cold peaches and egg salad sandwiches on the beach, the always "oh you look so beautiful!", buying that "first legal drink", that time she drank cheese dip at Golden Lion thinking it was soup, and so many more memories that are unforgettable.
Alma, Mom, Grandma, Great-Ma. However you knew her, she will be greatly missed. She was an amazing and strong woman. Always there to support us when we needed it most, quick to include anyone and everyone in every situation, lend a helping hand in every task (even at 95!), and waiting to take the most uncomfortable seat in the house so that no one else had to. She was the center of so many memories. She cherished life and loved putting others first. She worked hard to put others at ease, and we're all grateful for her sacrifices. In the end, she was taken care of perfectly by her daughters and granddaughters. She knew and appreciated all the visits and phone calls from family and friends, as well as all the thoughts and prayers from everyone sharing their gratefulness and love for her. We all know that she's at peace now, which puts us all at peace too.
Survivors include her three Children, Buz (Gwen) Mckim, Patti (Dave) Jeffries and Kathy Marin; five Grandchildren, Kimberly McKim, Kristy (Richard) Butgereit, Kasey Scott, Jennifer (Dan) Lowe and Hank Marin; eight Great-grandchildren, Ambree McKim, Lexi Rentz-Chaca, Pearl Scott, Shawnie Scott, Adrian Scott, Lottie Butgereit, Dean Butgereit and Colton Lowe; two Great-great-grandchildren, Braxton Chaca, Becklyn Chaca; As well as numerous friends, who are were always considered family.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Robert McKim; her Son, Bobby McKim and by her sister, Marion Ramm.
