Obituary

Alma Elizabeth "Betty" Durrance, 85, passed away peacefully in her Ormond Beach home at 8:45 AM on November 17th. Betty was born to Christopher and Alta Clifton on June 24, 1928. She lived in the Daytona Beach area all her life, marrying her husband Leonard Durrance in 1945. She helped him in his early businesses, including the establishment of the still family-run business, Halifax Paving, Inc.

Betty was an avid bowler for more than 50 years, competing at local league, state and national levels. She was well known among the Daytona Beach bowling community, a member of the 600 Club, and held a high game score of 279. Betty loved early country music, John Wayne movies, the Florida Gators, and fishing in the lakes around their second home on the St. Johns River in Astor, Florida. She was an incredible cook, hosting huge family gatherings at every holiday with good humor and simple grace.

She was a nurturing, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and appreciated nothing more than spending time with those she loved. She actively shared her life, her inspiration, and her warm smile with everyone she knew. She welcomed Christ into her life during her last few months, bringing joy to her children.

Betty is predeceased by her husband Leonard, (who died on the same day she did in 2002), her son Thomas Louis (Tommy) who died on July 22nd, 2005, her brother Claude Clifton and her sister Gladys Miller. She is survived by her son Leonard C. "Lennie" Durrance, wife Kathy, her daughter Irene Conroy, husband Wayne, daughter-in-law Jo Lynn Durrance, brothers Vernon and David Clifton, and sister Barbara "Bobbie" Durrance. She had seven grandchildren; Aaron Lee Watson, Thomas Austin "Tad" Durrance, Trina Joy Watson, Lynn Edaia "Dai" Durrance Young, Joseph Leonard "Joey" Durrance, Amanda Lynn Durrance and Ashley Renee Durrance, and two great-grandchildren, Thomas Kenneth (Trey) Durrance and Whitaker Thomas Young.
