Obituary

Allen Horace Levy, 86, of Ormond Beach, Florida and formerly of Pompano Beach, Fl, New Jersey, and New York, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Advent Daytona Hospital, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

ALLEN HORACE LEVY, Avrom Chaim, was born April 30, 1937, in The Bronx Hospital, New York. Proud to be raised by his Father, Louis Levy, 2nd generation Russian immigrant, and his Mother, Gloria Feiler Levy 1st generation Polish immigrant in a five story walk up tenement house. He lived in Cleveland, Ohio, North Tonawanda, NY, and Limestone, Maine as his Father's work required. They always came "home" to The Bronx.

He graduated from The Bronx Grade School PS 61 in 1948, Herman Ridder JHS #98 in 1951, and Lynbrook High School, Long Island NY in 1955.

Allen first started working at the age of eight years old. His various jobs included washing and racking glass soda bottles, dishwasher, bus boy, paper route, hand loading hay and peat moss, selling cigarettes at a corner store, pumping gas, changing oil, sold Electro Lux Vacuum cleaners, and was a Pinkerton Security Agent at a Nuclear Power Plant. At 15, when school In Maine was closed to harvest the potato crop, Allen got a job driving and running a food canteen at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine. In 1953 when working at Rupp Chevrolet, one of his jobs was driving a new controversial car called the Corvette. Allen thought it was a piece of plastic junk. But he grew to love Corvettes, and was able to realize his dream, "I'm a Heart Warrior, Corvette". After 31 glorious years at IBM, he retired and became a five star house husband!

In 1955, at the age of eighteen, Allen was proudly inducted into the Army. Serving his country has been a significant influence on his life. With Company E, 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment he served in the Cold War at Fort Dix NJ, Fort Carson, Colorado, Pinder Barracks, Zirndorf, Germany, & Camp Kilmer, NJ. Allen fired expert and earned membership on the highly specialized LeClerc Rifle Team. In addition to their daily jobs, they competed across Europe. He was approached to go into officer training in Germany, but he preferred to pursue leadership in the private sector. When given leave, he camped across Europe with his buddies & continued his love for travel throughout his life. He was Honorably Discharged in 1962 Rank PFC.

Reunited with his Army buddies later in life he embraced the reunions, comradery plus volunteered recruiting & influencing young people to service our country! When 9/11 occurred, he attempted to rejoin the Army three times. The final attempt was on-line. Obviously someone realized his season in life, & sent him a T-shirt.

He attended RCA Institute of Technology University graduating with a degree in Electronic Technology. He accepted a position with IBM, was "fast tracked", & worked extremely hard his entire career moving upward in the organization. His favorite position was Director & Field Manager of the IBM Products Education Center next to the USA headquarters for IBM. He absolutely loved to teach. He was favored for further promotions & accepted them with pride.

While working long hours at IBM, he also worked 2 part time jobs, evenings & weekends so he could move his family out of the city into a suburban home in New Jersey. He accomplished this goal, and continued his sacrifice as the commute to IBM was 4 hours roundtrip daily. When his Father passed away unexpectedly, he moved his family to Florida so he could be near his Mother to help her. Allen is always, first and foremost, family loyal! Allen retired in 1992.

January 1, 1984, Allen married Rebecca Jane Burrell, in Pompano Beach, Florida. They began a forty (40) year beautiful, rare marriage of true love and devotedness! Allen was a classy, romantic, generous man! They worked hard, played hard, focused on their extended families, raised cats, traveled extensively living every moment possible cherishing the gift of service to others. Traveling during a total four year Sabbatical for Rebecca, in their trailer and then motorhome, they hiked their way through nearly every National Park in the USA, including the Grand Canyon. They were in every state twice except once in Hawaii, plus every Canadian providence except one. They were extras in a movie starring Tom Selleck "Ruby Jean and Joe" 1996, filmed in Bisbee, Arizona. Their journey together continues on.

Community Service has always been an important value, cultivated by growing up in the Boy Scouts and the Police Athletic League. Allen's service included: Volunteer Fire Department Gordons Corner and later Fire Marshal in Manalapan, NJ, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association, American Lung Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, United Way, & Amateur Radio Hurricane Post-Storm Communications primarily in south Florida. He became a Notary so he could marry four worthy couples. He volunteered for several years to transport any voter, called "a shut-in" to the polling locations and back home.

Allen was extremely proud of his son Bryan, who became a Radiologic Technician and has worked for the same hospital day surgery for thirty-one years. They share a love of motorcycles, boats, and cars.

Allen believes that his parents, relatives, and friends from around the globe have molded his foundation, character, faith, spirit, work ethic and morals! The magnificent life of Allen's only happened because he was stronger than anyone knew, tougher in handling the hard times, possessed sheer grit, fortitude, determination often called "take no prisoners", unabashedly fierce spirit and faith without borders. To endure the painful disappointments life presented, he survived, repeatedly, to go on to love, strive and work harder and achieve all that the world could court. He retained his gentleman, diplomatic disposition! He is deeply loved, cherished, and will never be forgotten, but rather emulated so that his spirit and faith carry on.

Surviving him are his beloved wife of forty years Rebecca Jane, son Bryan, son Andrew (Suzanne), grandson Max, brother Gene (Joung Hwa) and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and a multitude of Rebecca's beloved family members.
