Obituary

Allen Benjamin "A.B" Suggs, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 27th, 2025, with his beloved family at his side.

Allen was born on October 31st, 1934, in Wauchula, Florida, the son of Rev. Benjamin William and Minnie Mae Suggs. Allen attended Lee College in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he began his career in the ministry.

Allen met the love of his life, Helon, in August 1957, at her home in Moultrie, Georgia, when he came into town for a revival service at Helon's father's church. They were married July 19th, 1958, and were together for nearly 67 years. In Jacksonville, they raised two outstanding daughters, Darlene and Dawn, and would go on to have 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Outside of ministry, Allen worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, and retired from there in 2001. In his free time, he loved spending quality time with his beloved family and friends, singing gospel songs, playing his piano, and being a dynamite Wii bowler.

Allen ministered at Arlington Assembly of God, taking up positions in practically every department imaginable, from Sunday School teacher, youth leader, and choir director, to assistant pastor, worship leader, bus driver and anything in-between.

He will be remembered above all for the abundant love and affection he had for his wife and daughters, their husbands whom he treated like his own sons, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. He was distinctive for being a man who seemed to never meet a stranger – everywhere he went, he was always running into friends and relatives, and even if he didn't know someone, he could change that effortlessly with a smile, a handshake, and a "How are you today? God bless you!" In this way, he truly exemplified Jesus's commandment to "Love thy neighbor as thyself."

Remaining to cherish Allen's memory are his devoted wife Helon; his daughter Dawn Toutant and her husband Joe; his son-in-law Tom Morrison; his brother Wilbur; his grandchildren Christine Morrison, Jessica Clark and her husband Chris, Lauren Martin and her husband Adam, Brooke Morrison, Jared Allen William Sebastian, and Jordan Sebastian; his great-grandchildren Delila Kincaid and Eleanor Martin; and dear friends who became family: Terry Manley, Luke and Catherine Rasmussen, and their children Henry, Ford, and Barrett.

Awaiting Allen on God's celestial shore are his parents Rev. and Mrs. B.W. Suggs; several brothers and sisters; his kind-hearted and loving daughter Darlene Morrison; and his extraordinary grandson Joshua Sebastian.

His Celebration of Life service will be held June 10th at Calvary Christian Center (1687 West Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174), with the viewing beginning at 9am and service to follow at 10am. Arrangements are being handled by Lohman Funeral Home – Daytona (1423 Bellevue Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114).
