Our beloved mother Alice Harriet Robertson Wesley entered peacefully into eternal life with our lord on Wednesday July 2 2008 with her family at her side. A Celebration of life will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday July 21 2008 in the Chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona 1423 Bellevue Ave. Daytona Beach. The family will be receiving friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow in Daytona Memorial park.
Alice was born in Kansas City Missouri on July 24 1919. She moved to Daytona Beach Florida at the age of 19 where she met and married her husband John Charles Wesley Sr. on January 20 1940. She was a resident for 69 years.
Alice was a home maker and mother to seven children. After raising her children she became a secretary for the City Of Daytona Beach. Alice was active in the Sweet Adeline's "Kitchen Band" and Line Dancing. She performed in several productions with the Ormond Beach Senior Center often designing and sewing costumes for herself and other performers. She was the sole composer of one entire production titled "Florida Bound". She was also a volunteer for the Council on Aging of Volusia County where she served meals to seniors through the Meals on Wheels Program. Alice was a dedicated volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Volusia County. Through her work with the Council on Aging she became a Foster Grandparent to a young girl.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years John Charles Wesley Sr. her son John Charles Wesley Jr. "Jack" and her grandson John Charles Wesley III "Johnny".
Alice is survived by her daughters and their husbands; Barbara and Jim Gilbert Diana and Bryan Cooper Susan and Martin Langille Esther Ilene Wesley Bradshaw Julia and Floyd Blackwelder Laura and Jim Edwards; her daughter-in-law Jacquie Wesley; as well as 17 grandchildren. 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations may be made to "The Smile Train" at 41 Madison Avenue 28th Floor New York NY 10010. and http://www.smiletrain.org as all who knew her would comment on Alice's beautiful smile. All knew of her love for children and she would always tell her girls to "keep your apples up " meaning to always keep smiling. The Smile Train program provides very poor children throughout the world not just a new smile but also a new hope and a new future.
