Obituary

Crotty Alice B. - Alice Crotty 76 of Ormond Beach passed away on June 26 2009 at her home surrounded by her children and immediate family. She was born on April 11 1933 in St. Paul Minnesota and graduated from Mount Holyoke College (one of the Ivy League's "Seven Sisters") in 1955. Mrs. Crotty married the love of her life E. William "Bill" Crotty (a prominent local attorney and U.S. Ambassador) in 1955. Alice and Bill moved to Ormond Beach in 1958 and raised seven children. Alice spent much of her time driving the children in car pools and on field trips coaching their softball teams and leading their Girl Scout troops. She organized and oversaw the playground mother's group during all the years her children were there - 1964 to 1985. In addition to being a mother and homemaker Alice was very active in local service clubs. She was a charter member of the Memorial Hospital Community League and volunteered for the Cancer Fund LSO the United Fund UNICEF the Muscular Dystrophy Drive the Muscular Dystrophy Fund the Multiple Sclerosis Fund Easter Seals the Girl Scouts and for the LPGA tournaments. As a member of the Junior Service League Alice was Chairperson of the Thrift Shop & Bundles Parking. She received the Woman of the Year in the early 70's. In addition to her other volunteer work Alice found time to produce an educational television program for children that won second place in a statewide competition. Among her many enjoyments in life were sports (especially tennis) playing Bridge with her friends every week at Oceanside Country Club and watching Jeopardy during which she would routinely know more answers than anyone else. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Her children and 20 grandchildren were an enormous source of pride to her and filled her heart with warmth and joy. Each year her out-of-state daughters and their families would travel from New York and Rhode Island to spend Christmas at her home in Ormond Beach. They would join with the Florida family and friends in a Christmas Eve extravaganza of music and laughter a tree half hidden by presents treasure hunts and the shrieks of delight from the youngsters when the presents were passed around. Alice leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Kathy (Larry Bartlett) Beth (Greig Rabitaille) Mary (Dan Livingstone) Gary (Lisa) Maury (John Geoghegan) Mike (Kristen) and Kelly; her grandchildren ages 5 to 30; her sister Debbie Morrison and other relatives and friends too many to mention. Alice's family will be having a celebration of her life and a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am on Thursday July 2 2009 at St. Brendan Roman Catholic Church.
