PERROTTA ALFRED
Alfred Perrrotta age 88 born and raised in Paterson N.J. and a resident of Palm Coast passed away Friday June 22 2007 at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial with the care and support of the hospital staff and Hospice.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday June 30 2007. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time in the church Memorial Room. Military Honors will be rendered following the Mass outside of church. Interment will take place at a later time in Florida National Veterans' Cemetery in Bushnell FL.
Mr. Perotta moved to Miami FL from Floral Park N.Y. in 1959; and upon his retirement from Eastern Airlines to Palm Coast in 1982.
As a young man he joined the CCC's working in our National Parks & Forests in the North West. In peacetime he enlisted in the US Army and served with the 113th Infantry. During WWII he enlisted in the US Navy and served on a Destroyer (DD 589) in the So. Pacific from 1942 - 1945. They participated in 24 engagements while earning 10 battle stars.
In 1938 Alfred won the Golden Gloves boxing championship and in 1942 the Silver Gloves Navy Championship. He enjoyed volunteering in many areas. He was a volunteer fireman on Long Island he serves as usher at the 10 a.m. Mass for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church he volunteered for 9 years with R.S.VP. at the Adult Activities Center & received a volunteer award in 1995; and he always looked forward to volunteering at the VA Clinic.
Al was a member of the Italian American Social Club N.Y. Social Club Knights of Columbus #7845 American Legion # 115 Life Member of VFW Post 8696 Life Member of Disabled American Veterans # 86 and a Life Member of Italian-American War Vets Post # 7. He was also a member of the Tin Can Sailors EAL Retirees Assoc. and AARP.
Mr. Perotta was preceded in death by his beloved son Alfred Charles Perrotta in 2003.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Marie; daughter Phyllis Ann Edwards (husband Stephen)of Stone Mountain GA; daughter in law Frances Perrotta of Deland FL; grandchildren Nicholas C. Perrotta of Morristown N.J. Kimberly A. Herring (spouse Mark) of Deland FL Noelle A. Perrotta of New Smyrna FL Elaine M. Edwards of Decatur GA and Elyse A. Edwards of St. Augustine FL; and 3 great-grandchildren Danielle Kelsey & Kasey.
Memorial Donations may be made in Mr. Perrotta's memory to any of the following military organizations in Palm Coast: American Legion D.A.V. Italian-American War Vets or V.F.W.
