Alfred "Al" Vincent Murphy age 82 passed away on March 17 2011. Al was born September 6 1928. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday March 25 2011at 2 p.m. at Cardwell Funeral Home 3571 Ridgewood Ave Port Orange Florida 32129. The Rev. Paul Pollock will officiate.
Al was born in Brooklyn New York. He attended St. Petersburg Florida High School and "Class of 1948". He received a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Florida International University in Miami and a graduate of the Southern Police Institute from the University of Louisville Kentucky. Al was a Korean War Veteran 20th U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Miami Elks Lodge #948 Miami Mahi Shrine Miami Police P.B.A. F.O.P. Lodge #20.
Al retired as a Major with the City of Miami Police Department and was Commander of the Criminal Investigation Section. He was also a retired U.S. Customs Inspector in Miami Florida. He worked on the Cruise Ships at the Port of Miami.
Al enjoyed reading history especially the American Revolution and Civil War. He visited all the Revolution and Civil war battlefields. Cruise ship travel was also a favorite. He was active in athletics and when younger played professional softball.
Al attended the Covenant United Methodist Church in Port Orange.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years Vera Waldrep Murphy. (He always said the luckiest day of his life was when he met Vera a beautiful lady.) Al also leaves behind two brothers-in-law two sisters-in-law along with multiple nieces and nephews all of whom he loved dearly.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Covenant United Methodist Church of Port Orange or Hospice of Volusia/Flagler of Port Orange.
