Former Hollywood FL City Commissioner Albin H. "AL" Hines of Ormond Beach passed away on August 23 2011. Born in Evanston Illinois in 1923 he served in the US Coast Guard during WW II. In 1949 he and his family moved to Hollywood FL. While in Hollywood Mr. Hines was co-owner along with his wife Gertrude of Hines Auto Parts Co. Inc. He was elected to the Hollywood City Commission and served many years on the Broward County Board of Adjustments as well as on the Board of Directors of the Sheridan Vocational Center. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Elks and the Kiwanis Clubs of Hollywood and Ormond Beach. Al was a Board member of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce as well as a charter member of the Hollywood Committee of 100 and the Broward County Crime Commission. In his business life he was a Director of the Automotive Service Industry Assn. and President and one of the Founders' of the Florida Automotive Wholesaler's Assn. (F.A.W.A.) for his fifty years of service the annual "Al Hines Award" was created to honor him. In 1995 Al moved to the Trails Residential Community in Ormond Beach serving as President of the Woodridge Villas HOA and Vice President of the Trails HOA. He also served on the Ormond Beach Police Department's Citizen Advisory Committee and was a Board member of Citizens for Ormond Beach Inc. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 ½ years Gertrude and is survived by his two daughters Peggy Farmer (Husband Dr. Frank) of Ormond Beach and Mary Ann Darcy (Husband John) of West Palm Beach and a sister Wanda Reitz of Mattoon Ill along with four grandchildren John Darcy II Joan Dunnam Frank Farmer III Dr. Kevin Farmer their spouses and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial service to honor Al Hines will be celebrated on Friday September 2nd at 1:30 pm at Lohman Funeral Home-Ormond; 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. A special appreciation is extended to the extraordinary staff at Southland Suites Assisted Living in Ormond Beach and to Vitas Hospice for their loving care.
