Alberto Mantilla

August 28, 1934 – May 31, 2026

Alberto Mantilla, 91, passed away peacefully in Florida on May 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on August 28, 1934, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, Alberto was the beloved son of the late Norberto Mantilla and Hermina Mercado. He carried the warmth, pride, and traditions of his Puerto Rican heritage throughout his life. He lived in New Jersey and Pennsylvania before spending his later years in Florida. Above all else, Alberto was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and family man whose greatest joy was the people he loved. Family was the center of his world, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Alberto shared a loving marriage with his beloved wife, Maureen Mantilla, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished traditions. He was a proud father to Albert Mantilla and his wife, Paola; Robert Mantilla and his wife, Marie; and Michael Mantilla and his wife, Wendy. He was also a devoted grandfather to Gabriella Mantilla and her husband, Michael Latona; Adriana Mantilla; and Robert Andrew Mantilla, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

He was predeceased by his parents, Norberto Mantilla and Herminia Mercado. He is survived by his beloved siblings, Michael, Virgilio, Marcelana, Gregory, Pascual, and Gabriel, with whom he shared a lifelong bond. Alberto was deeply devoted to his brothers and sisters and would spend hours on the phone with them, sharing stories, laughter, and memories that kept their family connection strong no matter the distance.

Known for his gift of storytelling, Alberto could captivate anyone with tales from his life, often sharing wisdom, humor, and lessons learned along the way. He loved nothing more than gathering with family, telling stories, and reminiscing about cherished memories.

Alberto had a passion for cooking and took great pride in preparing meals for those he loved. Whether gathered around his table for a home-cooked meal or enjoying one of his favorite family recipes, he believed that food had a special way of bringing people together.

An avid gardener with a remarkable green thumb, Alberto found peace and happiness tending to his plants and watching them flourish. During his years in Pennsylvania, he lovingly maintained a greenhouse filled with vegetables, a reflection of the patience, care, and dedication he brought to everything he did. Family and friends often admired his ability to grow just about anything, and he took great pride in sharing the fruits of his labor with those he loved.

Alberto firmly believed that nothing in life would be handed to you. He taught his family that if you wanted something, you had to work hard for it, and that rewards earned through dedication and perseverance were always the most meaningful. This strong work ethic became one of the many lasting lessons he passed on to those he loved.

Alberto also enjoyed watching baseball and was rarely far from his beloved handheld Pocket Poker and Blackjack games. Family members could often find him testing his luck, enjoying the challenge, and passing the time with one of his favorite pastimes always within reach. Those little games became part of his daily routine and are fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.

He was known for his impeccable style and was always well-dressed, no matter the occasion. Whether attending a family gathering or simply going about his day, Alberto carried himself with dignity, confidence, and class.

In addition to the love of his family, Alberto was especially adored by his fur great-granddog, Khloe Penelope, who never missed an opportunity to shower him with affection. Much to everyone’s amusement, Khloe would always try, and almost always succeed, in sneaking a lick on his lips, creating memories that brought laughter to the entire family.

Alberto’s legacy is one of unwavering love, devotion, kindness, and family. His stories, laughter, recipes, traditions, Pocket Poker and Blackjack games, and endless love will live on through the family he adored. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that the bonds he nurtured and the memories he created will remain forever in their hearts.

May he rest in eternal peace.
