IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alan
Harnois
February 28, 1948 – December 10, 2024
Alan Lloyd Harnois, 76, affectionately known as Al or Big Al, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, with his devoted wife of 44 years, Patricia "Pat" (Hoggarth) Harnois, by his side.
Born on February 28, 1948, in Taunton, Massachusetts, Alan was the son of William and Madeline (Cabral) Harnois. He spent much of his life in Massachusetts before retiring to Palm Coast in 2012. A graduate of Taunton High School, Alan proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, completing a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Despite the profound impact of his service, Alan remained a humble patriot who rarely spoke of his experiences.
Alan built a remarkable career spanning over four decades at Avery Dennison in Framingham, Massachusetts. Through hard work and determination, he rose from mailroom clerk to computer programmer. In retirement, he stayed active by working part-time at a local golf course.
An avid outdoorsman, Alan enjoyed hunting, boating, and especially fishing-a passion he cherished sharing with his sons. He and Pat also shared a love for travel and adventure. Together they explored the world through scuba diving in the Caribbean, dog sledding in Alaska, ATV rides through Red Rock canyons, and countless spontaneous road trips.
Alan will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his kind heart beneath a sometimes-stubborn exterior. He found joy in hosting family gatherings and treasured time spent with loved ones.
He is survived by his wife Pat; sons Alan (Karen) Harnois of Webster, MA, and Brandon (Jennifer Edwards) Harnois of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren Jeffrey Harnois, Avelyn Edwards, and Zachary Edwards; and siblings Nancy (Michael) Spittell, Carol Noblet (Fred predeceased), Joanne (William) Brancs, Maureen (Ronald) Morris, Roger (Noreen predeceased) Harnois, and Miriam (Dennis) Lynch. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A private burial service will be held at Swan Dale Cemetery in Mendon, Massachusetts. May Alan's memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
