Dr. Ajay Kumar Sanghi was born on March 10 ^th , 1947 to parents Dr. Kamala Sanghi and Mr. Abhimanu Sanghi.  He was born in New Delhi, India where he grew up and attended university at St. Stephen's College of Delhi University receiving his Bachelor's degree.

He met Sunanda Malhotra in 1968 while still living in New Delhi.  He courted her for 2 years prior to their marriage in June of 1970.  During this time, Ajay was offered a prestigious opportunity to attend SUNY Stony Brook in Long Island to obtain his PhD in economics, which was actually the first group of students to do so.  He made the hard decision to move the US in late 1968.  Sunanada followed in 1970.  Both were blessed to meet other students from India at Stony Brook, all of whom remain close friends to this day.  He also obtained two Master's degrees at the same time from SUNY.

After completion of his PhD in NY, Ajay received his first university teaching appointment at The University of Montana in Missoula.  Imagine what a different change in lifestyle and culture shock for a young man from India!  The young couple, pregnant with their first son, moved to Missoula, Montana.  His eldest son, Atul Sanghi was born there in January 1975.  While in Montana, Ajay was able to expand his love of hunting and fishing; which he developed as a boy in India.  Hobbies he would later share with his children as they got older.  His next teaching position was in St. Louis at Washington University and then he moved to his long-time home of Delmar, NY a suburb of Albany.

The family moved to Albany in 1980 where Ajay accepted a job as the Chief of Impact Analysis for the NYS Energy department.  He helped to develop New York's carbon emission trading program.  He remained in the position for nearly 20 years.  His second son, Dr. Amit Sanghi was born in November of 1980.  Ajay also invested heavily in real estate in Albany.  Both Sunanada and Ajay made a healthy group of lifelong friends in the Albany area.

It was in Albany, as his sons grew up, that the family enjoyed snow skiing, boating, fishing and hunting.  His love for the outdoors led Ajay to build a cozy cabin in the woods on a beautiful lake in the Adirondack mountains.  Often the family would spend weeks at a time in the summers and many long weekends there throughout the years.  He loved staying in the winter when the snow was falling and the family could all ski together.  Ajay's other joys included traveling and gambling; some say his second home was in Atlantic City!  Over the years, he knew it was important to travel with the family so the kids could see the world, often to Europe, Hawaii and other interesting destinations.  He also went with Sunanda all over the world after his retirement.

As his health began to decline, Ajay decided it was time to move to warmer year-round weather and decided to move to Florida.  By this time, his children were grown and moved out of the house.  He wanted to be near the ocean.  In 2006, Ajay and Sunanda moved to Ormond Beach, FL.  This is where they spent the remainder of his years.  The family would come visit them; and his grandchildren, Thor, Ingrid, Aryana and Landon all enjoyed Dada's pool and the beach.

The family does not want there to be sadness for his passing, but rather a celebration of his life and remembrance of the good times and in good health.  Please, share stories of Dad, some will be good and some will be bad, but that is life.  He was a great husband, father, grandfather, professor and provider.  May he be with God and Guru and finally be free of suffering.
