Agostino “Gus” Anania, aged 62, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by those he loved, on August 9th, 2026 after a courageous battle with metastatic Ocular Melanoma.

Gus was born early on a frosty morn, in December 1963, at Halifax Hospital, Daytona Beach, Florida to Joe and Kathy Anania. After graduating from Mainland High School in 1982, he joined the US Armed Forces, 82nd Airborne division. He was stationed in Ft Campbell KY, and at Bad Ders Feld, Germany with the 3rd recon squadron of the 11th US Calvary.

After his military service he returned to the area, married his first wife Kim and started a family. He worked as salesman for various local companies, enjoying the comradery of likeminded fellows in the industry.

Proficient with all things mechanical, he transitioned seamlessly from building motorcycles and cars in his youth to mastering the restoration of railroad watches from the late 19th century, ensuring these precision timepieces were preserved for the future

In 2020 he achieved his lifelong dream of buying a summer home in northern Maine, in the bucolic town of Cherryfield on the banks of the Narragausus River. There he continued his tinkering , this time with old farm machinery, while still working in the garden, and relaxing on the deck of his home observing bald eagles fishing, or deer eating his heirloom apples. Were it not for the cancer, he would still be there.

Gus will be always be remembered for his positive attitude undaunted by hardship, and his keen ability to decipher people and situations helping those he loved overcome adversity and meet the challenges life often hands us. His generosity and sense of humor will be unmatched, his love for God and country will never be forgotten

Gus is survived by his wife of 23 years, Betsey, daughter Kathryn and son-in-law Noah. Son James, daughter-in-law, Rachael, and grandchildren Natalia, Ruby, Agostino the 3rd , and Mary, all of whom brought sunshine, happiness and unwavering pride into his life.

He is also survived by his father Joseph, his sister Janet, brother-in-law Martin, nephews Christopher and Micheal, and niece Spencer, along with many grand nieces, and nephews.

He is predeceased by his mother Kathryn, who instilled in him the strong foundation of Christianity and fidelity to family, friends and country.

A Private ceremony and celebration of life are being planned for a future date.
