A. Bruce Sauer 86 of Port Orange passed away unexpectedly last week of natural causes. A celebration of Bruce's life will be held on Friday August 17 2012 10:00am at the Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange with inurnment to follow in the Spruce Creek Cemetery. Bruce was the last surviving son of Henry and Jessie Sauer of Bad Axe Michigan. Bruce attended High School there and upon graduation in 1944 as a 17 year old joined the US Navy and served with the Sea Bee's in the Pacific. Shortly after returning from the war Bruce met courted and married his sweetheart Shirley Jean. Bruce earned a degree with high honors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He spent 28 years as a Development Engineer for General Motors starting in Fisher Body and ending with the last 24 years at Chevrolet. In 1970 he wrote the first proposal for a computerized suspension analysis machine contributing to the safety of cars and trucks all over the world. Bruce was a talented and avid golfer from his early teens and if one was to listen to circulating rumors formidable bridge player. He was a great sports fan forever loyal to his Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Tigers. Bruce will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew him. He is predeceased by his wife Shirley of 62 years and one son. Bruce is survived by his children: Michael Stephen and Mary and five grandchildren.
